Advanced: The Dollhouse Signup
This page is to participate in upcoming Dollhouse classes.
The Dollhouse is for intermediate-advanced comedy improvisers.
Do you often:
⚡️feel lost or overwhelmed onstage?
⚡️have trouble identifying what’s funny?
⚡️fill the empty stage with ideas until you’re exhausted?
⚡️get the note to “ground the scene,” “straight-man,” “go the environment?”
⚡️want to stop thinking so much and just play again?
The Dollhouse is for you.
Students will learn to:
⚡️understand the difference between what a performer does and what an audience experiences.
⚡️focus on what’s “true” instead of what’s “interesting” or “clever.”
⚡️simplify their comedic improvisation techniques.
⚡️BE an improviser instead of to DO improv.
⚡️hone awareness of partners and patterns.
⚡️perform simply and rediscover play.
The Dollhouse is an original longform structure in which scenes take place across a large shared location, stitched together by characters traveling from one location to the next. It has been taught and performed previously in New York City and Providence, RI.
Dollhouse scene work is grounded and steeped in environment as the unusual character of the location is discovered hiding in plain sight. Audiences get to experience a level of omniscience, knowing where every character is at any moment.
Requirements:
⚡️Students must have taken at least two classes within an improv program.
⚡️Students will be have weekly homework, focused on noticing things about environment and behavior. (Important)
